Youth In Verse School Days Picture

School Days

I got thirteen years.
That was my sentence
And all the while
I was only a juvenile.
When they stuck me here
I was so young
I didn’t realise
That this wasn’t paradise.

Talkin’ ‘bout school days
Now ain’t it a crime
The way they take little innocents
And make ‘em do time.

A minor offence -
Born too recent –
Such a rotten deal.
No right of appeal.
There was no defence –
Not even a trial.
Just locked away
Every single day.

Talkin’ ‘bout school days
Now ain’t it a crime
The way they take little innocents
And make ‘em do time.

I used to believe
There was a reason
I needed reform
But I was just a pawn.
There was no reprieve
For good behaviour.
You could only earn
An even longer term.

Talkin’ ‘bout school days
Now ain’t it a crime
The way they take little innocents
And make ‘em do time.
